How Much Does a Mini Goldendoodle Cost?
By Pat & Sonny Heino, Bittersweet Goldendoodles, Newport NH

It is the first question almost every family asks us, and it deserves an honest answer. Our current mini Goldendoodle puppies are $1,800 each. Here is what that number covers, what it does not, and how to think about the true cost of bringing a doodle into your home.
What the $1,800 includes
When you bring home a Bittersweet puppy, you are not just buying a dog. Every puppy is examined by our veterinarian before going home. Each one goes with a state Certified Health Certificate and a vaccine record, and puppies are dewormed several times and given age-appropriate vaccines.
Our puppies are also warrantied for one year against genetic health defects, not just heart defects. You will find the full terms in your contract, and we walk through them with you. We raise the puppies in our home, so you also get the benefit of daily handling and early socialization that is hard to put a price on.
Why prices vary between breeders
You will see Goldendoodle prices that run well below ours and well above. The difference usually comes down to how the puppies are raised and what stands behind them. A breeder who keeps dogs in the house, pays for vet exams, and offers a health warranty has real costs to cover.
A very low price can be a warning sign. It may mean skipped vet care, puppies raised away from people, or a seller who will not let you visit. We always say: ask where the puppies live, ask what paperwork comes with them, and ask to see the place. We welcome visits by appointment.
Costs after you bring your puppy home
The purchase price is only the beginning. Plan for food, a crate, bedding, bowls, a leash and collar, toys, and a first vet visit. Puppy classes are well worth the money, and so is a good brush and comb.
The big ongoing cost for a doodle is grooming. Because their coats are curly and low-shedding, they need regular brushing and a professional groom every six to eight weeks. Add vet visits, preventive care, and pet insurance if you choose it, and you will have a realistic yearly budget.
How to pay
We accept cash, check, and PayPal. We talk through payment and any deposit on the phone, so you know exactly what to expect before you make a decision. There are no surprises, and we are happy to answer every question.

Is a mini Goldendoodle worth it?
For most of our families, the answer is yes. A mini grows to about 25 to 30 pounds, fits easily into most homes, and has the friendly, people-focused personality Goldendoodles are known for. A healthy, well-socialized puppy is the best start you can give a dog that may be with you for 10 to 15 years.
Spread over those years, the cost of a carefully raised puppy is small compared with the joy, and compared with the vet bills that can come with a poorly bred dog. Think of the price as an investment in a long, healthy life together.
Ways to plan ahead for the cost
If the price feels like a stretch, start planning early. Set aside a little each month for the purchase and for the first year of supplies and vet care. Decide up front whether you want pet insurance and, if so, price a few plans while your puppy is still young, since coverage is usually cheaper before health issues appear.
Talking with us early also helps. We can tell you when upcoming puppies are expected, so you can line up the timing of your savings with the timing of your puppy. A little planning keeps the excitement of a new puppy from turning into stress.
What a first-year budget looks like
Your first year usually includes the puppy, a crate, bed, bowls, collar and leash, food, toys, a series of vet visits, training classes and grooming. Puppy food is a bigger item than people expect, because growing dogs eat a lot of quality food. Professional grooming starts a few months in and repeats every six to eight weeks.
Add a cushion for surprises. Puppies chew things, swallow things and occasionally need an unplanned vet visit. A small emergency fund gives you peace of mind and means you can always say yes to the care your dog needs.
Hidden costs of a bargain puppy
A cheap puppy can turn into an expensive dog. Without vet care and a health warranty, you carry the risk of early illness, parasites and inherited problems. Behavior problems from poor early socialization can add training costs too.
We have heard from families who saved money up front and spent far more later. We would rather you pay a fair price for a healthy, well-raised puppy than a low price that comes with heartbreak.
